Important Information About Our Centre
Our History
St. Josephs Hospital and Home was opened in 1861 by the
Sisters of St. Joseph, Hamilton. Three Sisters provided care
in the original sixteen bed structure. Over the years many additions
were made to the old building to accommodate the changing needs
of our community.
In 1992, it was determined that St. Josephs Hospital and
Home would transfer its acute care services to the Guelph General
Hospital (GGH) and our role would be redefined so that St.
Josephs Health Centre would become a long
term care centre of excellence.
The 1990s were a period of transition for St. Josephs
that culminated in the final transfer of all acute care services
to GGH in August 2001. Today St. Josephs is a fully accredited
institution that houses 64 medically complex and palliative
residents, 143 long-term care residents and 27 patients in rehabilitation.
In addition, the Centre has two beds designated for respite
care.
St. Josephs also offers excellent community Outreach Programs
such as:
Out N About Seniors Day Program
Alzheimer Day Program
Acquired Brain Injury Program
In addition, we have numerous outpatient or ambulatory care
services such as:
Outpatient Physiotherapy and Occupational Therapy
Speech Language Pathology services (for all age groups)
Clinical services, including Opthamology, Bone Densitometry
and Ambulatory Care Clinics |
