Key Family Information
for Long Term Care and Complex Continuing Care
The First 72 Hours
1. It's your room. You are welcome to bring some items from home - if it does not interfere with the daily care. Furniture should not be large. Bring pictures for memory box, table and/or the wall. Staff will arrange to have large pictures mounted on your wall. Please refer to page 8, "Personal Belongings"

2. Label every belonging other than clothing. St. Joseph's Health Centre will label all clothing items.

3. You are responsible to contact Bell for a phone connection or internet hookup. Contact the Business Office, if you have questions.

4. Every electrical device, including lights, must be approved by maintenance before use. IT must approve the use of any phone.

5. Visiting hours are "anytime" as long as it does not bother other residents/patients.

6. Obtain a telephone contact number for the nurse or staff.

7. Should your loved one pass away, staff will pack the possessions for you to pick-up, if you wish.

8. Family celebrations are encouraged. The family dining room can be booked by calling Environmental Services at ext 4412.

9. Parking cards (3 per family) are available for access to the parking lot. A refundable deposit is required for each card.

10. You can join your family member for a meal. The cost is $7 per meal. The first meal is free for one family member on day of admission. $5.00 is for the main meal. $2.00 is for dessert, if requested. You may purchase your meal ticket at Switchboard.
