Leaves of Absence
Under the Long Term Care Act, any resident of a nursing home
may take 21 days vacation or medical leave without losing
his/her bed. You may take a medical leave whenever you may
require hospital care. In addition, a 45 day leave of absence
for psychiatric care may be taken as often as required.
You
are also entitled to 48 hours of casual leave
per week. You may accumulate your casual leave over the course
of the year up to combine with your vacation to give you a
leave up to a maximum of 31 days. Vacation days cannot be
carried over, but must be taken prior to the end
of each calendar year.
In Complex Continuing Care & Rehabilitation, this does
not apply. Please speak to your Director for details.
Immunization
The Centre encourages all residents to maintain and update
their immunization against pneumococcal pneumonia, tetanus,
diphtheria and influenza. If your immunization is not up-to-date
on admission, you will be offered immunization against pneumoccal
pneumonia and/or tetanus and diphtheria at that time. As noted
previously, influenza vaccine or flu shots are
offered to all residents each fall. These are ordered by your
Medical Director.
Medications
Medications (including prescription, over the counter) are
not allowed at the bedside unless specifically ordered as
such by the physician.
Smoking
Residents may only smoke outside in the smoking shelter provided
at the front of the building. Visitors are not permitted to
use this shelter.
