Ways in Which Residents Can Contribute Ideas and Address Concerns

St. Joseph’s Health Centre is committed to providing exemplary care. In keeping with our Mission and Values as well as the Residents’ Bill of Rights, our staff encourages residents to join in our efforts to provide a caring and supportive environment for everyone who lives here.

By sharing ideas, asking questions and expressing concerns, residents and their families can help to ensure that our programs truly meet the needs of those we serve and that problems are resolved in an effective and timely manner.
There are a number of ways in which residents and their families can participate and can make suggestions or raise issues of concern.

Some of these are outlined below.

Residents’ Council
The Residents’ Council meets to discuss issues that relate to the quality of life of the residents in this facility. Participants may raise concerns or make recommendations for changes to policies or service for themselves or others within the Centre.

Residents’ Council meets on a monthly basis. The minutes of each meeting are posted on the bulletin boards beside the elevators and in each living area and include the names of the various council representatives.

If you are interested in becoming a Residents’ Council representative or you would like to present an idea or concern to the group, please contact the Recreation Therapy Department at extension 4295.

Neighbourhood Meetings
Each neighbourhood is home to eighteen residents with individual needs and preferences. Neighbourhood committees meet regularly to plan social events or address ideas or concerns that are unique to that group of residents. Notices for upcoming meetings and minutes of the previous meeting are posted at a designated spot within the neighbourhood.

Residents and their families are encouraged to attend neighbourhood meetings and speak openly about their concerns and ideas so that they can become informed about and influence the style and quality of care for everyone living on that neighbourhood.

Open Forums
Residents’ Council regularly schedules “Open Forums” to address topics of interest to all residents. These meetings offer opportunities for residents, families and staff to share information with each other, to provide feedback about recent changes, and to present ideas or suggestions about ways to improve our service in future.

“Tell Us How We are Doing” Questionnaires
These questionnaires are located on each neighbourhood as well as in the Town Square. If you would like to let us know how you think we are doing – whether it is good or bad! – we invite you to complete one of these questionnaires and return it to us in the box provided.

The “Branching Out” Newsletter
This in-house newsletter is intended to keep our residents and their families informed by publishing articles of interest and providing updates on current issues and events within our Centre. We hope you find this resource helpful, and we welcome any feedback about the usefulness and appropriateness of the news and information it contains.
